David Adler, co-general coordinator of Progressive International, on board the lead vessel in the Global Sumud Flotilla, “the largest convoy in history to traverse the Mediterranean with a mission to establish a humanitarian corridor to reach the starving people of Palestine” wrote in a letter to the Nation magazine:

I joined the flotilla, just like every other delegate, to defend humanity before it is too late. But on Yom Kippur, I am reminded that I am also here because my Jewish heritage demands it….If Israeli forces intercept us on Yom Kipper, then let them see what true atonement. Not fasting in comfort while starving their neighbors.  Not praying in safety while dropping bombs over their heads.  Atonement means action.
