Kennedy’s quid was to take our missiles out of Turkey, for Russia’s quo of removing them from Cuba.  And now?  Sure, we can swallow Venezuela and Cuba and Greenland,  but even with trillions in defense spending we cannot digest them.

Hegel remarks somewhere that all great world-historic facts and personages appear so to speak.  He forgot to add:  the first time as tragedy, the second time as farce.
