Two convincing jusifications/goals have been offered to justify the current attact on Iran:
Eliminated the existential nuclear threat Iran poses to Israel and other countries.
Eliminate the ruling Iranian regime which is oppressing the vast majority of its people and supporting terrorists abroad.
How achieve these goals:
The United States needs to assert itself into the drivers seat and tell Israel that it will guarentee that Iran does not have the capacity to produce nuclear weapons. How can this be done?
Needed to be done first:
The United States should immediatly inform the current government of Iran that it will cease hostilities and do everything it can to get Israel to cease hostiities if the following conditions are met:
(1) Iran will allow the International Atomic Energy Agency access and confiscate all of its Highly Enriched Uranium.
(2) Iran will agree to limit future uraniam enrichment to low grade for peaceful purposes and to permit imspections by the IAEA to assure this is the case. The United States would be willing to assist in this effort.
It is to be sure, a long shot, but should Iran agree to this proposal, the United States should then make continued military support of Israel conditional upon its returning Gaza to the Palestinians and its ceaseing to steal land in the West Bank. Israel’s zionist campaign has been one of the main justifications for Iran’s support of terrorists organizations and the United States needs to take a moral and pragmartic stand and insist on justice for the Palestinian people, the vast majority of them, like the vast majority in Iran want simply to have their own land and a government and foreign posers that do not oppress them.
Regarding regiem change:
The U.S. will agree to cease hostilities but will employ ecomonic sanctions to pressure the current government to respect the rights of its people. Admittedly this is a return to the political status quo, but the new economic and military status quo has changed as a great deal of Iran’s firepower has been destroyed. It is very doubtful that we will be able to bomb our way to regiem change and putting boots on the ground is near certain to end badly as it did in Afganistan. And it is a given that clandestine efforts to weaken and replace the current regime will continue.
In the end, it is the Iranian people who will be able to change and choose its government. When lines of communication open up there will be more opportunities for the West to help them with this.
