A PAGAN THANKSGIVING

Our gods are green and our gods are good

And we thank them for this food

We thank Mother Nature’s rain and sun

Her seeds, her soil our kingdom come

We thank the famers for the harvest

The fisherfolk shepherds, butchers and cooks

And we thank those who serve us our daily bread

Remembering to help those not so well fed

We worship no virgin mother

Certainly no jealous father in the sky

Saddled with a nation too sick to acknowledge its sores

We sadly share dying seas

vanishing forests and species

Our friendships balanced on shifting sands of hope

hope that what we love will not be lost

Our prayers:

work and wonder

Our temples:

ancient forests,  untouched streams

Our miracles:

migrations and matings, birth and bird nests

Our hope:

born of a knowledge that love is the child of the desire we share with hawk and salmon…
